Operating Heavy-Duty Truck-Mounted Cranes: Six Ironclad Rules to Remember
Truck-mounted cranes rated at 16 tons or higher are classified as heavy-duty models. When operating such large-scale lifting equipment, heightened safety precautions are essential, and strict adherence to the manufacturer's operating guidelines is mandatory. What are the six ironclad rules for operating heavy-duty truck-mounted cranes?
Operating Heavy-Duty Truck-Mounted Cranes: Remember These 6 Ironclad Rules (Figure 1)
1. Never perform lifting operations on slopes or uneven ground. When working on soft surfaces, place wooden blocks or similar supports under the outrigger feet to increase the load-bearing area.
2. Before commencing operations, conduct the following checks:
● Tighten any loose pipe joints and fasteners;
● Inspect all components, especially structural parts, for damage. Contact the manufacturer immediately if damage is found.
● Ensure the crane's transmission lever is in neutral and the parking brake is engaged.
● Verify the hydraulic oil level in the tank does not fall below the specified minimum.

3. During cold weather operations, thoroughly preheat the vehicle engine and crane hydraulic system. After engaging the power take-off (PTO), allow the oil pump to idle for at least 2 minutes while the vehicle is at idle speed. Perform at least one unloaded cycle for each crane function.
4. Do not operate in severe weather conditions or near high-voltage power lines.
5. Ensure adequate lighting at the worksite during nighttime operations to guarantee safety.
6. Do not operate the truck-mounted crane until you have read and fully understood the entire product manual.
